Leipzig (dpa/lhe) – The soccer women of Eintracht Frankfurt surprisingly failed in the round of 16 of the DFB Cup. Second in the Bundesliga table, they lost 2-1 (1-0) at second-division leaders RB Leipzig on Saturday and were eliminated. National player Laura Freigang put the Hessians in the lead in the 19th minute, but after the break Marlene Müller turned the game around in favor of the hosts with a double strike (55th/89th).
Coach Niko Arnautis’ team will continue in the Bundesliga next Saturday with a home game against Bayer Leverkusen. With 17 points, the Frankfurt women are currently in second place behind champions VfL Wolfsburg (21), with whom they have to play on December 3rd.
