Hesse: Frankfurt is planning lower fares for low earners

Frankfurt/Main (dpa/lhe) – Frankfurters with a low income should be able to travel much cheaper by bus and train from next year. You would only have to pay 30 percent of the regular price, the city announced its plan on Wednesday. For example, an annual ticket for schoolchildren and senior citizens with appropriate proof should cost 109.50 euros – that would be a little more than nine euros a month. This annual ticket will be available from next year for 365 euros. So far, the city has paid holders of the so-called “Frankfurt Pass” a significantly lower subsidy on the fare, which varies depending on the ticket.
