Red through the traffic light and that with an SUV? According to a court decision, traffic offenders must expect a higher fine than usual.
Frankfurt/Main (dpa/lhe) – According to a ruling by the Frankfurt District Court, anyone who drives an SUV through a traffic light when it is red must expect a higher fine than usual.
The reason: Due to the boxy, high shape of the off-road vehicle, the risk of injury, for example for pedestrians, is much greater – therefore red light violations with such a car are more serious than usual, it says in the on Wednesday.
In the specific case, a man in Frankfurt was flashed at a traffic light that had been red for more than a second. The judges increased the standard penalty of 200 euros listed in the catalog of fines to 350 euros and also imposed a one-month driving ban. The decision is not final. An SUV (“Sport Utility Vehicle”) is an off-road vehicle-like car that has higher ground clearance and a steeper front end than conventional cars.
