Friedrichsdorf (dpa / lhe) – The prices for goose meat have skyrocketed due to the increased operating costs. The Hessian Farmers’ Association announced that the increase was between 15 and 20 percent compared to the previous year. The prices for geese from Poland or Hungary have even doubled. Nevertheless, they still cost about 30 to 50 percent of a German animal. Organic farms that do not need fertilizers and grow the feed for their animals themselves have fewer problems with increased costs. There are no large goose fattening farms in Hesse. Most of the approximately 320 keepers sell the meat directly to the end consumer.
