Melsungen (dpa / lhe) – Handball Bundesliga club MT Melsungen complains of another long-term failure. Newcomer Rogério Moraes has torn a tendon in the thumb of his right throwing hand and will be out for up to three months. The Brazilian, who was signed in the summer, will have to undergo surgery in the coming days, the club announced on Tuesday. In addition to Moraes, the long-term injured Finn Lemke, Elvar Örn Jonsson, Domagoj Pavlovic, Timo Kastening and Julius Kühn are currently absent.
“Now it’s clear that we did a good job of expanding the squad for the new season. After the bad luck with injuries last season, we wanted to be better prepared. But we would have liked to have been spared the fact that this is already relevant now, after only five matchdays can stay,” said MT sports director Michael Allendorf. Coach Roberto Garcia Parrondo is currently down to 14 players, including three inexperienced youngsters.
