Schluechtern (dpa/lhe) – After a dead man was found in a forest near Schluechtern (Main-Kinzig district), the police and the Hanau public prosecutor’s office are investigating. As they announced on Monday, a driver had informed the emergency services on Sunday afternoon after being stopped by an injured woman while driving through the forest between the Schluechtern district of Kressenbach and the district of Ulmbach that belongs to Steinau an der Straße.
According to initial findings, there had previously been a verbal and physical altercation between the 36-year-old woman and her 38-year-old husband. The woman was taken to the hospital, at the same time the search for the man in the forest began. There, the officers found the woman’s husband, who was no longer responsive at the time, above a rock formation. An emergency doctor could only determine his death despite immediately initiated resuscitation measures.
Initially, the public prosecutor’s office in Hanau and the criminal police in Gelnhausen had started investigations on suspicion of manslaughter, the statement said. As part of the extensive search for clues, a police helicopter and firefighters were also deployed in the rough terrain. An autopsy on Monday would have revealed evidence of the man’s suicide. “However, the investigations are ongoing and will continue in all directions,” the investigators said. Initially, the background of the events and the question of how the woman was injured remained open.
