Frankfurt/Main (dpa/lhe) – After hitting a prisoner in the face several times with his fist and giving him a knee bump, a prison officer has been sentenced to eight months’ probation. In its decision on Thursday evening, the Frankfurt district court also stipulated the payment of 3,000 euros to a victim protection facility as a monetary condition. The 45-year-old man was convicted of assault in office after a request from the public prosecutor.

The prisoner, who had already been noticed several times for acts of violence, was brought back to the prison in March of this year after a court hearing. After his arrival at the prison, he was first restrained and tied on his back. In this situation, according to the indictment, he received punches in the face from the defendant, which caused severe nosebleeds, and a knee in the stomach. In the process, which has been ongoing since mid-October, the official vigorously denied the allegations. However, two colleagues had confirmed the assaults in official statements and on the witness stand. The court and the public prosecutor’s office therefore assumed that the accused was the perpetrator. The verdict is not yet legally binding.
