Münster (dpa/lhe) – After the accident of two freight trains near Münster in southern Hesse with a fatally injured engine driver, the route remained closed on Monday. The route has been cleared, but there is still no forecast as to when it will be released again, said a spokeswoman for Deutsche Bahn. How long that will take is an open question. The cause of the accident is still unclear.
One of the trains was stuck on the line early Thursday morning due to a defective catenary and the other train ran into it. The 49-year-old engine driver was reportedly trapped in the run-up and derailed locomotive and succumbed to his injuries at the scene of the accident.
