Gelnhausen (dpa / lhe) – About a week after the fire on a farm near Gelnhausen (Main-Kinzig district), a resident was arrested. She was wanted on suspicion of arson and attempted murder and was taken into extradition custody in Switzerland on Tuesday morning, as the public prosecutor’s office and the Hanau criminal police announced on Wednesday. The 55-year-old disappeared with her car and her two dogs after the fire broke out in the historic apartment building.
According to investigators, there is now sufficient evidence that the woman set the fire intentionally. This caused damage of over 1.5 million euros. Since there were several residents in the house at the time of the fire, the authorities accuse the suspects of attempted insidious murder with dangerous means in addition to serious arson. Residents were able to escape by themselves.
Fire investigators examined the affected house on Wednesday. According to the current status, the fire also broke out in the woman’s apartment. A motive for the crime is so far unclear, since the suspect has not yet commented on the allegations. She is in extradition custody in Switzerland.
