Wiesbaden (dpa/lhe) – The SPD parliamentary group is campaigning for the promotion of employee housing to relieve the strained housing market in Hesse. The lack of affordable housing will continue to increase and thus also become a serious threat to the economy in the state, said the SPD housing expert Elke Barth on Wednesday in the Hessian state parliament in Wiesbaden.

In the expensive Rhine-Main region in particular, the specialists who are urgently needed in a wide variety of sectors can no longer find affordable housing. “In the future, living and working must therefore be thought of more together and designed accordingly politically,” Barth justified the initiative. Appropriate funding programs have already been launched in Baden-Württemberg and Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania.
