Dietzenbach (dpa/lhe) – The Hessian left wants to elect a new leadership at its state party conference this weekend and also discuss the consequences within the party after allegations of sexism. At the two-day meeting in Dietzenbach, a speech by federal party leader Janine Wissler is expected on Saturday. With the member of parliament Christiane Böhm and the district spokesman for the Left Party in Darmstadt, Jakob Migenda, there have been two applications for the state presidency so far. The incumbent state chairmen Petra Heimer and Jan Schalauske will not appear again at the party conference at the weekend.

In spring there were reports of cases of sexual harassment in the Hesse state association. After that, the state association appointed a team with several confidants that those affected by sexualized violence can turn to. In the most recent opinion poll by Hessischer Rundfunk in mid-October, the Left Party lost support among the Hessian population. In the Sunday question, she received three percent of the votes in the “Hessentrend” and would no longer make it into parliament. In the 2018 state election, the left got 6.3 percent.
