Frankfurt / Main (dpa / lhe) – After almost three months of negotiations, the process of a serious traffic accident with two dead and one seriously injured in Frankfurt is about to be completed. The district court ended the taking of evidence on Monday – the pleadings are to follow on July 5, followed by the verdict.

A 40-year-old motorist is charged with two counts of murder, dangerous bodily harm and illegal car racing. In November 2020, he was carried out of the curve on a thoroughfare in Frankfurt’s Ostend at 82 kilometers per hour and hit and killed a 27-year-old cyclist and a passer-by (61). The 61-year-old’s daughter was seriously injured.

In the trial, the accused had admitted the blame for the serious accident from the beginning. He described himself as a “car enthusiast” for whom the effect of a powerful exhaust system was important. The accident vehicle had 625 hp.

The reading of the criminal record showed on Monday that the 40-year-old had repeatedly appeared for traffic offenses and was therefore convicted. At the request of the lawyer, the presiding judge also gave the severely injured woman the legal advice that an attempted murder could also be considered. The act to the detriment of his client cannot be separated from the homicide, it said. In the indictment, the public prosecutor’s office assumes that the murder characteristic is dangerous to the public. The trial began on April 5 before the Assize Court.
