Frankfurt (dpa/lhe) – Over the Pentecost weekend, the transport companies in Hesse are expecting an increased number of passengers after the start of the 9-euro ticket. “There are already significantly more people on the road than on a normal holiday weekend,” said a spokeswoman for the North Hessian Transport Association (NVV) on Friday.
Deutsche Bahn reported a “normal start of operations” for holiday traffic. The exact capacity utilization over the weekend is not yet foreseeable and also depends on the weather, said a spokeswoman. The trains could get fuller, especially on tourist routes. The Rhein-Main-Verkehrsverbund also expects higher demand on routes in tourist regions and on RE lines.
Since capacities can only be expanded to a limited extent and bicycle transport is limited, the transport association recommends switching to off-peak times. In the NVV area, capacities would be increased on weekends, in part by longer trains, it said.
With 9-euro tickets, passengers can travel throughout Germany on local public transport in the respective month. Monthly tickets are available for June, July and August.
