Today, Thursday May 4, the Catholic Church honors Santa Antonina.

There is no official record, but it seems that Saint Antonina was born in Nicaea (Bithynia), currently Turkey.

According to the Vatican website, Saint Antonina suffered martyrdom during the Christian persecutions ordered by Diocletian

She was imprisoned for two years and suffered the cruelest torture before being burned alive in her hometown.

The Catholic saints are the group of people recognized by the Church as saints or blessed on a specific date. The Roman Martyrology is the document that names and distributes in the calendar the almost 7,000 saints and blessed recognized by the Church.
