Five people were killed and another was injured Thursday, May 23, during an armed attack in Acapulco, southern Mexico. She performed in a grocery store located in a craft market near the main tourist avenue of the famous Pacific coast resort. This attack comes three days after the discovery of ten bodies in different neighborhoods of this city prey to the scourge of organized crime, according to the prosecution.

The prosecutor’s office in the state of Guerrero, where Acapulco is located, announced in a press release that it was investigating this attack which left five people dead, four men and a woman, and one injured.

The state of Guerrero is one of the most affected by the criminal activities of drug cartels. Some 1,890 murders were recorded there in 2023.

Violence linked to cartels has left some 450,000 dead and more than 100,000 missing since 2006, when President Felipe Calderon (2006-2012) launched a military offensive against drug trafficking.
