Zimbabwe at the polls. On one side is Emmerson Mnangagwa, 80 and outgoing president. On the other, Nelson Chamisa, a 45-year-old lawyer and pastor and opposition figure. Zimbabweans are being called to the polls this Wednesday. But after a campaign marked by banned opposition rallies and arrests, in a country already plagued by a long history of flawed elections, few believe that the opposition will emerge victorious from the ballot. And serious irregularities have been noted on the electoral lists, which raise fears of a ballot played in advance. Yet the opposition hopes to surf on a discontent so powerful that it will result in a high turnout, or even a victory.
Anatomy of a fall. Three months after winning the Palme d’Or, Anatomy of a Fall, by French director Justine Triet, is released in cinemas this Wednesday. A trial film, initially thought of as a series, the film takes its time (2h32) to meticulously dissect the balance of power and domination within a couple of well-to-do artists. Drawing inspiration from various facts, director Justine Triet traces the trial of a German author accused at the assizes of the murder of her husband, in their chalet in the French Alps. In the absence of witnesses, except their son, a visually impaired child, justice will dissect the life of the couple whose arguments were recorded by the husband. And reveal all the power relations, neuroses and hidden flaws.
