A 27-year-old woman has been arrested in Bergamo, northern Italy, for the murder of her two children after her two-month-old baby was found dead on October 25, 2022 and investigations concluded that she had allegedly murdered him. and who also did the same in 2021 with a 4-month-old child.
The investigations, coordinated by the Bergamo Prosecutor’s Office and carried out by the Carabinieri, made it possible to gather serious evidence of guilt against the woman, born in India but living in Italy since she was little.
According to the investigations, the woman caused the death of her first daughter by asphyxiation on November 15, 2021, who was only 4 months old, and of her second son on October 25, 2022, who was just two months old, the investigators reported in a statement. .
The investigation began on October 25, 2022, the date of the death of the second child, when the woman called the emergency room because her baby was not breathing and was found dead. The similarities with the previous death of the woman’s first daughter, which occurred less than a year earlier, aroused strong suspicions in the Carabineros, so an autopsy of the child was ordered.
The result of the autopsy examination, which arrived in February 2023, was that the cause of the baby’s death “was unequivocally caused by acute mechanical asphyxiation due to compression of the chest. According to investigators, this mechanical asphyxiation was obtained through voluntary action with the aim of causing the death of the child”.
Such investigative tests forced us to carefully re-evaluate the causes of the death of the first daughter, which occurred on November 15, 2021, which was initially believed to have been an episode of what is commonly known as sudden death, which consists in the sudden and unexpected death of infants.
The autopsy of the girl’s body, due to the condition of the body, did not provide conclusive information for the ongoing investigations, but through numerous interviews with doctors, family members, specialists and friends of the woman, as well as through the analysis of the extensive medical documentation acquired, allowed, also in relation to the death of the first daughter, serious indications of guilt against the woman to emerge.
The investigators took into account a series of contradictory statements provided by the mother over time, which did not find correspondence with what was verified by the Carabineros and it was determined that, as with her second child, the girl’s death was not caused by natural causes, but due to asphyxiation, probably with the use of a pillow, “to which the woman had referred, indicating it as a possible cause of the accidental suffocation of the little girl, only after learning of the investigations against her.”
“Thus, at the end of the investigations carried out, the circumstantial framework outlined identified the triggering cause of infanticide, for both crimes, in the mother’s inability to face the frustration of the children’s prolonged crying, excluding its possible negligent connotation,” he added. the notice.
