Camilla seems to be really absorbed in her new role as the king’s wife. Especially at this appointment: When she visits a kindergarten, she brings baskets of Paddington bears with her. The little ones are happy – and the soft toys experience a meaningful secondary use.
King consort Camilla brought joy to needy children. To visit a kindergarten run by the aid organization “Barnado’s” in east London, the wife of King Charles III finally not empty-handed. Instead, she brought hundreds of Paddington Bear-shaped teddies for the kids.
The good thing about it: the 75-year-old didn’t have to shell out a cent for her gifts. Rather, they were the bears that mourners laid in front of the royal residences after the death of Queen Elizabeth II.
“It’s been a pleasure finding a home for these bears – please take good care of them,” Camilla said of the children she gave the teddy bears, according to the Daily Mail. The Queen Consort not only chatted with the little ones in a good mood, she also ate jam sandwiches with them.
It was announced last month that the more than 1,000 bears would be cleaned and donated to the Barnardo’s charity. Camilla has been the patron of the children’s charity since 2016.
In addition to her, the stars of the “Paddington” film series also attended the event. For example, Hugh Bonneville and Madeleine Harris as well as Karen Jankel, the daughter of “Paddington” author Michael Bond, were also there. Bonneville also read the children a “Paddington” story.
The Paddington Bear with the red hat and blue jacket had become a symbol of mourning for the Queen in the days after the Queen’s death. The reason is a skit that Elizabeth II made on the occasion of her platinum anniversary with the popular children’s book character and which marked one of her last public appearances. Queen Elizabeth II died on September 8th at her Scottish estate, Balmoral.
