“I believe that Forza Italia can never again have a president and that is why I propose to the National Council to replace the word president with the word national secretary in all the articles that provide for it. Because there is only one president, there are no others.” After the very long applause, which lasted more than five minutes, the emotion, the message of gratitude from the Berlusconi family read to managers and militants, and the video that covered the stages of public action (not only political) of the founder of Forza Italia , Silvio Berlusconi, who died just over a month ago, the National Council of the party decided that the successor in the direction of Forza Italia will not have the position of president, but of national secretary. So he will be the national secretariat, and not the presidential committee, the body that flanks him.

The other proposal, supported by Antonio Tajani, -current Foreign Minister and Vice President of the Government- to officially recognize the role and name of Silvio Berlusconi in the party’s statutes, was also unanimously approved. Next, the document of the political program that sets the course for the future and that was illustrated by Andrea Orsini was voted on, also by show of hands.

The work of the National Council concluded with the election of the secretary, a position for which the only candidate is Tajani. Paolo Barelli, head of the Forza Italia group in the Chamber of Deputies, proposed it to the assembly with these words: “Tajani agrees with the candidacy proposed by the presidential committee, let’s move on to the vote on the election of the national secretary.” The election was unanimously approved by a show of hands, immediately interrupted by a new round of applause. Here is a new video in which Berlusconi talks about Tajani, who “has never made a wrong statement.”

Tajani then presented his first report as secretary of the assembly. He touched on the points of the action that Forza Italia intends to carry out “always loyal to the government coalition but different.” He claimed his position in the center and launched the slogans facing the European ones. He reaffirmed his commitment to justice reform.

Also included in the programmatic document was the proposal to dedicate to Berlusconi the project for the construction of the bridge over the Strait of Messina, which will link the peninsula with Sicily, approved by the Government of Giorgia Meloni, since it was one of the president’s dreams

“I thank him for his leadership”, said the President of the European People’s Party, Manfred Weber, who participated in the meeting to address Tajani: “Forza Italia is the center-right in Italy. Forza Italia is the EPP in Italy. I trust the future because I know Forza Italia, its people and their motivation”. Gilberto Pichetto Fratin, Minister of the Environment and Energy Security, was also satisfied with the result: “With his experience, his consistency and the loyalty that he has always shown, I am sure that Tajani will allow our party to win all the challenges, showing who knows how to conquer the political space that we deserve and that no one will ever be able to question”.

The Minister for University and Research, Anna Maria Bernini, also made a positive comment: “Forza Italia has been programmed to move forward. Tajani has always been the person closest to Silvio Berlusconi, the most authoritative, the most senior, the one who has always has firmly managed the European files in an extraordinarily efficient way”.

Meanwhile, Forza Italia will not be the new home of the M5S MEP Fabio Massimo Castaldo, who denied the latest rumors that spoke of an imminent landing in the Forza Italia party: “I have discovered, through a press article, that I have become Forza Italia MEP. This news is false,” the pentasternist MEP wrote on social media. I am responsible for Foreign and European Affairs of the M5S and, despite the bitterness and disappointment on various issues, my desire is to continue working to carry out our battles,” Castaldo concluded.
