The Beijing authorities have set up a special commission to establish responsibilities and investigate the causes of the fire in a hospital in the city in which 29 people died on Tuesday, local media reported on Wednesday.
The fire, completely extinguished in the early evening, started at 12:57 local time (04:57 GMT) at the Changfeng hospital, located in the Fengtai district, in the southwest of the capital.
Municipal officials have ordered all districts in the city to carry out large-scale inspections to detect and eliminate potential security risks in order to prevent security incidents, according to the Beijing Daily. So far, twelve people have been detained, including the director of the center.
In addition, the mayor of Beijing, Yin Yong, and the head of the Communist Party of China (CPC) in the capital, Yin Li, called for all efforts to be spared in caring for those injured in the incident.
Several hospitals in the city have begun to admit injured people from Chanfeng -from where 71 people were evacuated-, as well as patients who were admitted to that health center.
According to Beijing Business Today, Chanfeng Hospital is a private center established in 1985, specializing in the treatment of vascular diseases, and belongs to the second of the three levels established by China’s hospital classification system.
