The royal wedding bells will soon be ringing in Jordan: Crown Prince Hussein will tie the knot with Rajwa Khalid Alseif in the summer. The couple has often been compared to the British heir to the throne Prince William and his wife Kate.
A royal wedding will be celebrated again in the new year. Crown Prince Hussein, Queen Rania’s eldest son, will tie the knot in exactly five months, the Royal House of Jordan announced via the official Twitter account: “The Royal Court is pleased to announce that the wedding of its Royal His Highness Crown Prince Al Hussein bin Abdullah II and Mrs. Rajwa Khalid Alseif will take place on June 1, 2023.”
The engagement of the two was announced in August last year. Also on Twitter at the time, Queen Rania posted a photo of the beaming couple and wrote: “I never thought it was possible to carry so much joy in my heart. Congratulations to my eldest Prince Hussein and his beautiful bride-to-be Rajwa.” As the future wife of the crown prince, Rajwa will eventually also be Queen of Jordan.
The pair have been compared to Prince William and his now-wife Kate, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, after Rajwa wore a similar blue dress for their engagement. Like the young British royals, the Jordanian royal family is also close to the people. On social media, the Jordanians also often share private snapshots on Queen Rania’s Instagram account.
It was the second engagement within a few weeks that the family was allowed to announce in 2022: Hussein’s younger sister, Princess Iman, had just announced her engagement to a New York businessman. The Queen also found touching words on this: “Congratulations, my dearest Iman; your smile has always been a gift of love, which I have treasured since the day you were born. I wish you and Jameel a life full of love and laughter!” Their wedding date has yet to be announced.
In addition to Hussein and Iman, Queen Rania and King Abdullah II, who have been married since 1993, have two other children: Princess Salma and Prince Hashem. On January 30, 2023, the youngest child will celebrate his 18th birthday, and his father was born on the same day 61 years ago.
Jordan is a constitutional monarchy. Nevertheless, Abdullah II has the last word on all state issues. He is the commander-in-chief of the army and head of foreign policy, as the Stuttgarter Zeitung confirms. The Hashemite royal family is said to be traced back to the Prophet Mohammed.
