American rapper Killer Mike was arrested by police on the sidelines of the Grammy Awards on Sunday February 4, just after winning three awards at this equivalent of the music Oscars.
A video posted on social media shows him handcuffed and escorted by agents through the corridors of the Crypto Arena, where the ceremony took place.
A police spokesperson told the Associated Press (AP) news agency that Mike’s arrest resulted from an altercation inside the arena around 4 p.m. He was incarcerated for a minor offense. The rapper, real name Michael Render, was released at 8:37 p.m. and is scheduled to appear in court on Feb. 29 in Los Angeles.
Killer Mike won three Grammy Awards, including best rap album for his opus Michael, during the pre-ceremony on Sunday afternoon, where many trophies are presented before the main evening. “I consciously tried to make the best album in the world,” he told the press after his victory.
With this record, he wanted to “tell the story of a young black man growing up in west Atlanta, so that the world can see that our story is not about victimization and defeat, but that we can win, prosper and flourish,” he added.
