An Orthodox Jewish couple seeing New York City using their toddler were slashed by a guy with a knife in what authorities are investigating as a possible bias crime.
The assault happened Wednesday evening, shortly before 6 local time, at lower Manhattan, authorities said. A 22-year-old guy was slashed from the mind, a 23-year-old girl was cut the lip, along with also a 1-year-old boy had been cut the chin, authorities said.
The familymembers, who had been visiting Belgium, declined medical care.
A defendant in the assault, Darryl Jones, 30, was taken into custody at the scene, authorities said. The defendant was allegedly ranting through the attack, sources said. A knife was recovered, authorities said.
Authorities have deemed the assault a potential bias incident, and also the New York Police Department’s Hate Crimes Task Force is exploring, police said.
The charges stemmed from an August 2011 assault and robbery in his apartment building, where police say Jones struck, kicked and struck a 50-year-old guy then drove him down many flights of stairs.
The victim sustained a broken eye socket along with three broken ribs, along with his mobile phone and wallet had been stolen, authorities said.
