At the beginning of her career, supermodel Moss suffered from the sexist behavior of some colleagues. However, she says she has not experienced any violence from her ex-partner Depp. In an interview, she talks about her testimony in favor of Depps in his defamation trial against Heard.
Kate Moss and Johnny Depp dated for four years in the ’90s. The model testified under oath at Depp’s defamation trial against his ex-wife Amber Heard in May. Moss contradicted the actress’ claim that the Hollywood star pushed her down the stairs during their relationship. “I know the truth about Johnny,” Moss explained on BBC Radio 4’s Desert Island Discs program. “I know he never pushed me down the stairs. I had to tell the truth.”
In general, Moss “believes in truth and I believe in fairness and justice”. The Brit also stood by the designer John Galliano when he was convicted of racist abuse in 2011. “I know that John Galliano is not a bad person – he had a drinking problem and people change.” Most people are not themselves when they drink. “They say things they would never say sober,” Moss explained.
Moss also spoke of a scary situation she experienced as a young model. She met a man who wanted to photograph her for a bra catalogue. “I was probably only 15 and he said, ‘Take off your top,'” Moss says. “I took off my top, I was very shy about my body at the time, and he said, ‘Take off your bra.'” But she felt something was wrong. “So I grabbed my stuff and ran away.”
Moss was discovered by a model scout at the age of 14. In the 90s she was one of the most sought-after faces in the fashion industry. In 1992, Moss shot her first major Calvin Klein ad campaign alongside Mark Wahlberg. However, the British woman does not have good memories of the recordings. Before the shoot, she suffered from anxiety and was even prescribed Valium to get through it all. Moss felt “vulnerable and scared” going topless.
Daughter Lila Moss is also a model today. The 48-year-old gave her offspring one piece of advice: “If you don’t want to do this shoot, if you don’t feel comfortable, if you don’t want to model, then don’t do it.”
