ONTARIO >> A man already on parole for assault with a deadly weapon was arrested for allegedly slashing his girlfriend’s face and then reportedly trying to grab a officer’s gun during a confrontation with police, according to Ontario police.
Robert Edward Thompson, 58, of Los Angeles was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder, domestic violence, making criminal threats, resisting arrest and violating the terms of his parole, according to San Bernardino County sheriff’s booking logs. He is expected to be in West Valley Superior court Tuesday, records indicate.
Officers were called to the Comfort Inn on 1811 E. Holt Blvd. around 2 a.m. Saturday for a woman screaming, said Sgt. Jeff Higbee, spokesman for the Ontario Police Department.
“During the argument, Thompson grabbed the victim — pinning her against the wall — and choked her until she lost consciousness,” Higbee said.
“When she awoke, Thompson had a knife out and attempted to slash the victim with the knife. She put her hand up to defend herself and was cut on the hand. He then slashed her several more times on the face.”
During the attack, Higbee said Thompson threatened to kill the 55-year-old Colton woman.
Officers found the couple in the lobby of the hotel, and when they tried to talk to Thompson, Higbee said the man became “combative with the officers and tried to remove a gun from the officer’s holster.”
Thompson was eventually Tased and taken into custody. Two officers sustained minor injuries during the fight, Higbee said.
The suspect was booked into West Valley Detention Center in Rancho Cucamonga and is being held without bail due to the parole violation.
