Agustín Rivera, father of former Ciudadanos (Cs) leader Albert Rivera, died suddenly this Sunday after suffering a heart problem. When the news broke, his son, who was in London, took a flight back to Malaga to be with her mother and his family, since his parents had lived in that area for years.

Agustín Rivera, 71, passed away suddenly. Together with his wife, María Jesús Díaz, he lived in Caleta de Vélez (Vélez-Málaga), on the coast of Málaga, so the funeral will be held at the Torre del Mar funeral home this Monday. After working all his life in the Bazar del Puerto, a family business for 30 years, Agustín Rivera started a new business with his wife and other relatives, a prepared food shop in Granollers, until a few years ago he retired and went to live on the Malaga coast.

Since Albert Rivera entered politics, his parents’ businesses suffered some acts of vandalism, intensified in 2017 at the height of the independence process, such as breaking windows or graffiti with the slogans “Citizens, it is not your land nor your fight.” The then leader of Cs always appreciated the support of his family and condemned these attacks. Now, he says goodbye to a father who always supported his political career.
