Orlando police identified the man accused of injuring two people with a BB gun before an officer shot and injured him Thursday afternoon as Alexander Proctor, 26.

Proctor does not appear to have a public criminal record in the state, according to the Florida Department of Law Enforcement. His arrest report listed him as a transient.

He now faces a charge of aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer. He was still hospitalized Friday morning, listed in critical but stable condition, police said.

The officer accused of shooting Proctor after he allegedly fired at him is Craig Adler, who has been with the department for four years. He is on paid administrative leave as FDLE officers investigate what happened, as is the protocol for officer-involved shootings.

The shooting happened at the Wal-Mart where Orlando police Lt. Debra Clayton was killed Betmatik last month.

“Certainly the memories of Debra and having to come here again for an officer-involved shooting was one of the first things me and my staff talked about — all of those sad memories,” Orlando Police Chief John Mina said Thursday afternoon.
