Prosecutors said Wednesday that a New York man sent over 20 letters to the LGBTQ community and also attacked New York City’s Pride march .
Robert Fehring (74), Bayport, Long Island, 50 miles east Manhattan, has been sending threatening letters since 2013, according to court records.
One of the letters was addressed to the director for a group that organizes New York City Pride events last year. It threatened the New York City Pride March. The letter threatened “firepower” and stated that it would “make the 2016 Orlando Pulse nightclub shooting look easy.”
On June 12, 2016, a gunman opened fire at Pulse in Orlando, Fla. Police killed the gunman.
Fehring’s attorney did not respond to a request for comment on Wednesday night.
The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of New York stated that he faces up to five years imprisonment when he is sentenced. However, online court records do not show any sentencing date for Wednesday night.
Breon Peace, U.S. Attorney for the District, stated in a statement that “we will not tolerate hateful threats meant to invoke fear, division, and we’ll hold accountable those who make and act on such threats.”
According to an FBI affidavit, other letters threatened to kill a Long Island official and bomb a Brooklyn barbershop affiliated with the LGBTQ community.
