On Thursday afternoon, a car caught fire on the A38 in the Mansfeld-Südharz district. The driver of the car noticed the rising smoke in time and stopped on the shoulder, a police spokeswoman said on Friday morning. The two people who were traveling in the car were unharmed. According to the spokeswoman, the car burned out and the flames spread to the embankment of the road. Fuel also ran out of the vehicle. The extinguishing work led to a five-hour full closure of the road in the direction of Leipzig. In this case, the heat can be ruled out as the reason for the fire, and the cause is being determined, the spokeswoman said.
