For years, Gisele Bundchen and Tom Brady have been considered a dream couple. But for weeks there has been speculation about a relationship crisis. The supermodel and the football star now confirm: The marriage is over.

Supermodel Gisele Bundchen and football star Tom Brady have divorced. Both announced this via Instagram. The decision was made together and amicably after much deliberation, Brady wrote. “The decision to end a marriage is never easy,” Bundchen wrote. “But we’ve grown apart and while it’s difficult to go through something like this, I’m grateful for the time we’ve had and always wish Tom the best.” A separation of the couple had previously been speculated for weeks – as well as the reason for the separation.

Bundchen and Brady had been married since 2009. The couple have a son born in 2009 and a daughter born in 2012, and Brady has a son from a previous relationship. “We have beautiful and amazing children who will continue to be the center of our world in every way,” Brady wrote. “We will continue to work together as parents and make sure they always get the love and attention they deserve.”

Bundchen and Brady asked that their privacy be respected at this “sensitive time.” Both had often appeared together on red carpets and were considered a glamor couple. Born in Brazil in 1980, Bundchen, who also has German roots, has been one of the most successful models in the world for many years. However, she has now retired from the catwalk and is working on many other projects, such as a cookbook.

“His focus is on his career, mine is mostly on the children,” Bundchen told British Vogue a few months ago about the distribution of roles in their marriage. “I am very grateful that he lets me take the reins when it comes to our family. He trusts my decisions.” Even then, Bundchen had also said that their marriage was “never the fairy tale that people would like to believe in”. “It takes work to really coordinate with someone, especially when you have kids.”

Born in California in 1977, Brady is the most successful quarterback in NFL history. He played for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and the New England Patriots. Last year he won the Super Bowl for the seventh time in his first season with the Buccaneers.

At the beginning of the year, Brady announced his retirement from football – and about 40 days later he announced his retirement. His place was “still on the field” and “not in the stands,” he wrote at the time, and now continues to play for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, albeit with mixed success. The media repeatedly speculated that Bundchen was bothered by the fact that her husband simply did not want to stop working.
