Rostock (dpa / mv) – The Rostock University of Music and Theater (HMT) is getting a new management. From April 1st, Benjamin Lang will be the new rector on an interim basis, the HMT announced on Thursday. The current rector, Reinhard Schäfertöns, is retiring early at the end of March after two and a half years. The position has been re-advertised and the selection process is ongoing. The term of office of the new rector, which is usually four years, is scheduled to begin in the 2023/24 winter semester.
According to the information, Lang has been a professor of music theory and composition at the university since 2018 and spokesman for the Institute of Music since 2019. Before that, he taught at music colleges in Hanover, Bremen, Osnabrück, Lüneburg, Zurich and Berlin. His compositions would be performed internationally.
