Schwerin (dpa/mv) – The state cabinet in Schwerin has approved the new version of a law to promote the training of educators for children up to ten years of age. “It is important that we pay great attention to improved training and accompany the trainees even more intensively on their way to becoming an educator,” emphasized Minister of Education Simone Oldenburg (left) on Wednesday. The cabinet had cleared the way the day before, so that the proposed law can be discussed and voted on in the state parliament.

According to the amendment, the crediting of trainees to the skilled worker key is to be gradually abolished from the 2023/24 training year. The day-care centers and kindergartens should be able to hire more additional staff. The state would bear the costs for this, it said.

The chairwoman of the left-wing faction in the state parliament, Jeannine Rösler, also pointed out on Tuesday that improved training is also associated with the hope that more young people will be interested in the profession.
