Schwerin (dpa/mv) – In Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, the population surveys for the 2022 census have begun. Around 330,000 people will be interviewed in the coming weeks, according to the country’s statistical office on Monday. Around 1,600 survey officers are on a voluntary basis in the cities and communities. They don’t just stand in front of the door unannounced, but announce themselves in writing a few days beforehand. According to the information, they also identify themselves with an ID card from the 2022 census. The interviews do not have to take place in the apartment, but are also possible in the hallway or on the doorstep, it said.
According to the office, the survey serves to determine the number of inhabitants and other information, such as the level of education and employment in the population. There is an obligation to provide information in order to answer all questions of the 2022 census. Questions about income, religion, bank information, identification documents, passwords, signatures or vaccination status would not be asked. For questions about the census, the Statistics Office has set up a hotline on 0385/20747538.
