Stolpe (dpa/mv) – A 76-year-old driver died in a hit-and-run accident not far from Stolpe (Vorpommern-Greifswald district). The pensioner was driving her car on the B 110 in the direction of Anklam on Saturday morning when she was suddenly overtaken and cut by another car despite the ban on overtaking, the police said. In order to avoid a collision with the car in front of her, she steered to the right, left the road with her car and crashed into a tree. According to the information, the 76-year-old died at the scene of the accident.
The person who caused the accident initially fled. A 37-year-old woman only reported being involved in the accident after the police had started a search and initial investigations. On the instructions of the public prosecutor’s office, the accused’s driver’s license was confiscated and proceedings were initiated for negligent homicide and unauthorized removal from the scene of the accident. The B 110 was blocked for more than four hours because of the accident. According to the police, the property damage amounts to several thousand euros.
