A man with an ax caused a large-scale police operation in Neubrandenburg in September 2022. He is said to have attacked an acquaintance and then fled through the city with an axe. Now the victim has to testify in court.

Neubrandenburg (dpa/mv) – The trial of an ax attack on a man in Neubrandenburg continues today at the Neubrandenburg district court. On the second day of the trial, the chamber wants to hear a number of witnesses, including the accused’s acquaintance, who was injured at the time. The public prosecutor accuses the 43-year-old of attempted manslaughter and dangerous bodily harm. The case happened on September 9, 2022.

The accused is said to have driven to an apartment where a woman and the 25-year-old victim lived. The 43-year-old is said to have rang the bell and, after opening it, hit the man twice with an ax to kill him. He was able to raise his arms and fend off the attacks – but was slightly injured.

The incident had caused a stir because the alleged perpetrator is said to have driven through Neubrandenburg with an ax on a bike and the police had publicly warned about him for security reasons. Several helicopters were in action. The accused, who has so far remained silent in court, later allowed himself to be arrested in a neighboring district without resistance. A verdict is not expected before the beginning of March.
