Rostock (dpa/mv) – Candidates for the upcoming mayoral election in Rostock can register until Tuesday afternoon. According to the city, nominations must be received by 4 p.m. at the latest.
A new mayor will be elected in Rostock on November 13th. The previous incumbent, Claus Ruhe Madsen, moved to Schleswig-Holstein in June as Economics Minister in the cabinet of Prime Minister Daniel Günther (CDU). Should a runoff election become necessary, this is scheduled for November 27th.
Several parties and individual applicants have already announced their candidacy. For the SPD, the head of the state building and real estate office in Rostock, Carmen-Alina Botezatu, is to make the race. The CDU and FDP are running together with senior police officer Michael Ebert. The Greens nominated Claudia Müller, Member of Parliament and Federal Government Coordinator for Maritime Economy and Tourism. The Left opted for Eva-Maria Kröger, member of the state parliament and parliamentary group leader in the Rostock Parliament, and the AfD for Michael Meister, member of the state parliament.
