Strasburg/Schwerin (dpa/mv) – Ten days after the national show of breeders of poultry in the north-east, the number of bird flu cases in their stocks has continued to rise and the first restricted area has been set up. As a spokesman for the Ministry of Agriculture in Schwerin said on Wednesday, the district veterinary office set a restricted area around a breeder of poultry from Strasburg (West Pomerania-Greifswald).
The number of affected attitudes increased within one day from 18 to 24, the number of suspected cases from 7 to 12 stocks. A total of around 1,500 chickens, ducks and other poultry species have had to be killed because of avian influenza. However, no commercial poultry farmer is yet affected.
On the weekend of 19./20. For the first time since the corona pandemic, an MV state show of breed poultry breeders with more than 200 participants took place in Demmin, West Pomerania. The first stocks are said to have become infected there. So far, five of the six districts have been affected, only Vorpommern-Rügen has not reported any cases of infection among breeders. The Friedrich Löffler Institute for Veterinary Medicine on the island of Riems estimates the risk of avian influenza as “high”.
