Schwerin (dpa / mv) – The state command of the Bundeswehr in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania is getting a new boss. On Monday (11:00 a.m.) Brigadier General Uwe Nerger will take the lead as part of a ceremonial change of command in the Schwerin Theater. The 63-year-old is thus the first point of contact for the state and districts in the event of disasters and serious emergencies. Nerger replaces Brigadier General Markus Kurczyk, who after two and a half years in office is moving to Koblenz to take over command of the “Center for Internal Leadership”. The transfer of office in Schwerin will be carried out by Lieutenant General Carsten Breuer, commander of the newly established Bundeswehr Territorial Command.

The State Command is the headquarters of the Bundeswehr’s territorial defense organization. With the involvement of its eight district liaison commands in the north-east, it coordinates civilian support services for the Bundeswehr, such as the Elbe flood, the forest fire in Lübtheen or most recently in the fight against the corona pandemic. The state command also trains reservists and calls them up when necessary. Another task is to look after the relatives of soldiers on deployment.
