Neustrelitz (dpa/mv) – The Lichtspieltheater Wundervoll (li.wu.) in Rostock and the Filmclub Casablanca in Greifswald are the main winners of this year’s Cinema Culture Prize Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania. The li.wu. The non-profit Filmland Mecklenburg-Vorpommern GmbH announced that Casablanca, which is run by ten volunteers, received the EUR 4,000 prize in the non-commercial venues category. The prizes were presented on Wednesday evening in the old tiled stove factory in Neustrelitz.
A total of 27 cinemas were awarded prize money totaling 100,000 euros for their outstanding programmes. Another movie theater received an honorable mention. According to the information, 34 applications had been received – more than ever, it was said. The managing director of Filmland MV, Volker Kufahl, said that the prize makes the important cultural work of the numerous commercial and non-commercial cinemas more visible, especially in rural areas.
“Now that you can still clearly feel the reluctance and uncertainty of the public to visit the public cultural venues, this appreciation of the operators, which is accompanied by monetary prizes, is an important social signal and an invitation to continue,” he emphasized. The Cinema Culture Prize was awarded for the fourth time.
