Rostock (dpa/mv) – In an open letter to the city administration, the Rostock citizens’ initiative “Bunt instead of brown” has massively criticized a personnel decision. It is about the attitude of a man who can be attributed to the “violent Nazi scene in Rostock”. The person concerned, who is named in the letter, should hold a management position in the health department, the letter to the incumbent mayor Chris von Wrycz Rekowski (SPD) said.

“It would be catastrophic for the reputation of the city if activities were to start. Not only would the health data of hundreds of citizens be at risk, it would also be an unbearable situation for the employees,” warned “Buntstatt Braun” in the letter further. There are indications of the man’s activities in the right-wing scene on the Internet.

The city administration explained on Wednesday, with reference to legal requirements, that no information could be given on the specific personnel procedure. “In general, the Hanseatic and university city attaches great importance to the fact that municipal employees document their entire behavior to commit to the free-democratic basic order within the meaning of the Basic Law,” it said in a statement.

There is no general suspicion for employees and applicants. However, should indications or facts indicate that there are doubts about compliance with the constitution, especially in sensitive areas of work, this will be investigated within the framework of the applicable law and legal consequences will be drawn if necessary.
