Waren (dpa/mv) – A drunk is said to have attacked and slightly injured a police officer and his colleague in Waren an der Müritz (Mecklenburg Lake District). The officer was no longer able to work, the police said on Monday. The police officers and the fire brigade had previously been called to the 34-year-old’s apartment because of a kitchen fire. During the operation on Sunday evening, the police officers also found drugs on him. Because he resisted the police measures, he was forced to the ground and handcuffed. The man injured the officers.

The kitchen fire was quickly extinguished. According to the information, there is a suspicion that the man forgot to turn off his stove – and thus caused the fire. An alcohol test revealed a value of 1.59 per mille. He is now being investigated for, among other things, drug possession, insult, threats, bodily harm and suspicion of negligent arson.
