Parchim (dpa / mv) – A fire on the premises of a nursing home in Parchim caused damage of around 20,000 euros – but nobody was injured. The fire broke out on Monday evening at a timber warehouse on the gable of the four-storey home, a police spokeswoman said on Tuesday. The fire brigade was able to extinguish the burning wood stacks and prevent the flames from spreading to the home. The house did not have to be evacuated. However, the ventilation system of the care facility with more than 110 places was damaged.
According to initial investigations, a smoker could have caused the fire. A smoldering cigarette is suspected to be the cause of the fire. The smoking island is also on this side of the facility. Because of the gusts of wind, someone could have smoked even closer to the building. It is determined because of negligent arson.
