Firefighters find a dead man in Neustrelitz after a fire alarm. In the process, an ex-work colleague has now confessed to having stabbed the man to death after a drink and an argument. He doesn’t give a reason.
Neubrandenburg (dpa/mv) – In the process of the violent death of a man in Neustrelitz (Mecklenburg Lake District), the accused made a confession. “I approached him with the knife from the kitchen and stabbed him,” said the 39-year-old on Tuesday before the Neubrandenburg district court. He couldn’t give a real reason for this. The victim, a former work colleague of the defendant, bled to death in June 2022 from a deep wound in his neck. The public prosecutor accuses the man, who lived with the victim at the time and drank alcohol with him, of manslaughter and serious arson.
The defendant also said that he had previously argued with the 60-year-old about moving out again. The older one took the homeless 39-year-old in in the spring when he was thrown out by his girlfriend. He didn’t want to let him go, said the 39-year-old.
According to his own statements, the accused washed the knife with a long blade in the kitchen after the attack and packed his things. Then he buried his ex-colleague “in the living room.” Firefighters found the body lying on the couch covered with a blanket and an artificial flower placed on top.
After the crime, the 39-year-old set fire to a towel in the kitchen and left. An insulation of a refrigerator caught fire. There was so much smoke that a fire alarm went off. The fire was out when the fire brigade arrived. The emergency services aired, found the dead and brought the police. The accused was caught a short time later in the city of Neustrelitz.
The trial will resume on November 29th. A psychologist examines the accused and is supposed to assess the extent to which he was guilty at the time of the crime. A verdict is expected in early December.
