Greifswald (dpa/mv) – A 26-year-old man is said to have stabbed and critically injured a 34-year-old passer-by at the train station in Greifswald. As a police spokeswoman said on Tuesday, the suspect was caught near the train station shortly after the incident on Monday evening. Passers-by saw the incident and alerted the police. In the meantime, the Stralsund public prosecutor’s office has applied for an arrest warrant for attempted manslaughter for the 26-year-old.

According to previous investigations, the 26-year-old got into an argument with the victim at the train station. The documented video recordings, it was said by the public prosecutor. The victim was suddenly stabbed in the neck. He was critically injured and could not be questioned about the incident for the time being. Rescue workers had to revive the man at the scene.

The suspect, who has no permanent residence, fled after the knife attack. He was arrested shortly after the incident, according to witnesses. A knife was also found near the train station as a suspected crime tool.

The investigation into the case is ongoing. Among other things, it should be clarified in what relationship the men stood to each other and what the motive for the crime was. So far there is no evidence of a robbery. The responsible district court is to decide on the arrest warrant in the afternoon.
