Roggentin (dpa/mv) – The maritime suppliers in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania are looking for new fields of activity after the bankruptcy of the MV shipyards. According to an initial analysis, the Maritime Supplier Alliance sees good opportunities in helping to shape the realignment of shipbuilding in the face of energy and environmental change, explained the Allianz CEO, Thomas Kühmstedt, on Friday.

At an innovation forum on Tuesday in Roggentin near Rostock, the industry wants to explore the possibilities. The aim is to achieve growth-oriented consolidation in the coming years. According to the information, the maritime suppliers employ around 5,000 people in around 100 companies. They currently form the backbone of the maritime industry in MV.

The alliance has already identified three possible fields of activity: the expansion of offshore wind energy, the production of hydrogen and plant and equipment systems for the transition to “green shipping”. The medium-sized maritime industry in MV could therefore contribute with modular solutions and shipbuilding systems. The conversion of seagoing and inland vessels is also a relevant market segment. There are also opportunities in naval shipbuilding – the industry can draw on many years of experience.
