Schwerin (dpa / mv) – State Minister of Economics Reinhard Meyer (SPD) called on the population to save energy even after the introduction of the energy price brakes. It is “about joint support to make Germany less dependent on energy imports,” he said on Tuesday.
According to a statement from his ministry, energy price brakes will come into effect on Wednesday for those who purchase electricity, gas and heat. These would also be calculated retrospectively for the first two months of the year. As a rule, consumers did not have to take any action. In the case of direct customers, the relief would come in the form of lower deductions. Tenants usually received the relief with the utility bill.
Decisive are capped prices per kilowatt hour for electricity (40 cents), natural gas (12 cents) and district heating (9.5 cents). These apply to 80 percent of the annual consumption forecast for September 2022. Since mid-February, small and medium-sized companies have also been able to apply to the state for hardship aid for particularly high energy costs in 2022.
