Schwerin (dpa/mv) – In order to preserve the fishing industry in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, the Ministry of Agriculture is looking for new strategies. As the ministry announced in Schwerin on Wednesday, action groups can submit ideas and projects until the end of March 2023. The selection process should be completed by mid-May.

According to the information, a total of 5.1 million euros in EU funds will be available between 2021 and 2027 to promote alternative incomes for fishermen in the country and to make the industry more sustainable overall.

For example, the construction of fish snack bars or the promotion of photovoltaic systems for climate protection and independence from fossil fuels are conceivable, it said. Agriculture Minister Till Backhaus (SPD) hopes that all regions of the country will make use of the opportunity.
