The number of protesters against energy policy remains constant in the north-east. More than 11,000 people were counted again on Monday, most of them in West Mecklenburg.

Wismar/Neubrandenburg/Schwerin (dpa/mv) – In Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, thousands of people demonstrated again on Monday against the federal energy policy and the consequences for consumers and companies. As police spokesman said, according to previous counts, more than 11,000 demonstrators for such protests came together in about 20 places between Schwerin, Wismar, Güstrow, Neubrandenburg and Pasewalk, including around 4500 people in Schwerin. In some places, the actions were still going on in the evening, according to the police, there have been no incidents so far.

In Schwerin, speakers called, among other things, for the sanctions against Russia imposed because of the Russian attack on Ukraine to be lifted and for the Nord Stream 2 pipeline to be put into operation. An end to arms deliveries to Ukraine and negotiations with Russia were also demanded. However, the demand for the resignation of Economics Minister Robert Habeck (Greens) received the most applause.

In Neubrandenburg, an energy price cap was demanded and demonstrators held up signs that also called for a general end to arms deliveries. Compared to the previous week, more German flags could be seen. Around 670 people marched through the city, and more than 1,000 protesters were counted in Wismar and Parchim.

Other protests were reported from Ludwigslust, Güstrow, Waren, Neustrelitz and Pasewalk, among others. As in the previous weeks, there were several protests in Rostock, one of which was aimed specifically at energy policy, and several hundred people attended. It was only on Sunday evening that several thousand people demonstrated in Lubmin (West Pomerania-Greifswald) against the gas surcharge planned by the federal government for October 1st.
