Schwerin (dpa/mv) – The police in Schwerin are warning of manipulated ATMs on current occasions. In the past few days, technical devices have been discovered at ATMs on Marienplatz, which are used to spy on the PIN number (personal identification number) when withdrawing money, a police spokeswoman said on Wednesday. The aim of the perpetrators is to find out the personal data of the money card holders and thus get hold of their accounts and money. It is not yet known whether there have already been victims.
“You should rather check your accounts closely,” said the police spokeswoman. It also helps to cover your hand when typing in the PIN number. Bank employees had turned on the officials. Such manipulations at ATMs in the region have not existed for a long time, it said.
