Sommerstorf (dpa/mv) – A driver in the Mecklenburg Lake District needed a special kind of orientation aid on Monday morning. As the police headquarters in Neubrandenburg announced, she had announced via an emergency call that she was in the middle of a field with her car. She doesn’t know how she got there and where she is at all.

The police assume that the 20-year-old fell asleep briefly on the journey from Neu Gaarz to Sommerstorf and thus got off the road. When the patrol officers found the woman with her car, it turned out that the car had rolled over the grain field and had come to a stop just in front of a lake. Her car had previously damaged a delineator and a street sign and struck a tree, the woman was unharmed. The damage was given by the police at 3000 euros. The 20-year-old is being investigated for endangering road traffic and property damage.

According to the police, accidents happen again and again due to fatigue, sometimes with serious consequences. In the previous year, 42 accidents were recorded in the Neubrandenburg police headquarters alone, which were due to physical impairments such as microsleep.
